RDA Riverina Committee Member – Deirdre Lemerle. Professor of Agricultural Innovation at Charles Sturt University.
Deirdre Lemerle is a weed scientist and research agronomist aiming to increase farmers’ capacity to reduce dependence on herbicides and associated risks of resistance and residues. She has a PhD from Sydney University and has published 150 scientific papers on weeds.
She was a Principal Research Scientist with NSW DPI (1980 - 2005), Leader of the Cropping Program in the Weeds CRC (1995 - 2005), and inaugural Professor of Agricultural Innovation at Charles Sturt University (2005 - 2015). She serves on various editorial boards and scientific advisory panels.
Her research achievements are indicated by a number of awards, including the NSW Agriculture for Outstanding Achievement, Council of Australian Weed Science Societies Medal for Excellence in Weed Science, CSU VC Award for Research Excellence, and the ABC New Inventors Program Grand Finalist with the ‘Stubble Star’. She is passionate about farmer - driven research and collaboration, evidence - based communication, and capacity building in the agri-food sectors of Australia and the Asian-Pacific Region".
