Regional Development Australia - Riverina (RDA Riverina) is looking for a warm, capable and well-connected Riverina Local Connector to deliver The Welcome Experience across Bland, Temora and Cootamundra-Gundagai LGAs. This is a rewarding, people-focused role helping essential workers and their families relocate, settle and build a life in the Riverina.
From finding housing, childcare and schools to helping people discover local groups, services and employment opportunities, you’ll be the person who helps turn an unfamiliar town into a community they can call home.
What you’ll be doingNo two days will be quite the same. You’ll
Provide one-on-one support to essential workers and their families before and after they arrive
Help newcomers navigate housing, childcare, schools, partner employment and local services
Connect people with community groups, activities, events and networks
Support internationally recruited workers and their families to navigate local services and systems
Work with employers to help new staff settle successfully
Build strong relationships with councils, employers, community organisations and service providers
Identify local workforce challenges and help develop practical solutions
Organise and support local welcome and connection activities
Capture feedback, identify emerging issues and contribute to program reporting and improvement
About you
We’re looking for a natural connector.
Someone who enjoys people, listens well and genuinely gets satisfaction from helping others.
You’ll thrive in this role if you:
Build rapport and trusted relationships easily
Have strong connections within your local community
Are empathetic, practical and a creative problem-solver
Are confident talking with people from a wide range of backgrounds
Are organised and comfortable with juggling competing priorities
Can work independently while contributing to a supportive small team
Communicate clearly, both in person and in writing
Are comfortable using technology including Microsoft 365, Outlook and CRM systems
Experience in a client-facing role, project management or government programs would be valuable. An understanding of the challenges involved in moving to an unfamiliar community would also be an advantage.

The details
Location: You must live in or near Temora, West Wyalong or Cootamundra
Hours: Part-time, 0.4-0.6 FET, with hours negotiated based on the successful applicant’s availability and preference
Travel: Regular travel across Bland, Temora and Cootamundra-Gundagai LGAs is an inherent part of the position. A current drivers licence and access to a vehicle are required
Contract: Currently offered until 30 June 2027, with the possibility of extension subject to funding

Regional Development Australia Riverina are looking for Local Welcomers in our regional towns across the Riverina.
Role of TWE Local Welcomer
Local Welcomers work alongside the Local Connector (full time role) to support essential workers and their families. The Local Connector remains the primary point of contact and is responsible for eligibility, referrals and overall coordination. Local Welcomers provide on the ground community connection, local knowledge and social support, as guided by the Local Connector. This includes:
Personalised Support: Offer informal, community – based support to essential workers and their families during arrival and early settlement
Local Knowledge & Connections: Connect newcomers with community groups, sporting clubs, and social networks to help them feel at home.
Logistical Assistance: Aid in navigating local services and connecting with schools or childcare.
Partner Employment Support: Assist partners and families of essential workers identify existing employment opportunities in the community that may or may not have been formally advertised.
Community Engagement: Assist the design and hosting of local events to help newcomers integrate.
Local Resources: Assist in the collection of current local resources to include in the Welcome Experience Kit.
