The Primary Industries Productivity and Abatement program is one of the initiatives announced in the NSW Government’s Net Zero Plan Stage One: 2020-2030. This initiative will support primary producers to reduce their emissions and create opportunities for NSW land managers to participate in carbon markets.
Key priorities under this initiative are:
· Commercialising low emissions technology in the dairy, wool and red meat industries.
· Connecting small landholders, including Aboriginal landowners, to carbon markets.
· Developing premium land-based carbon markets that deliver stronger environmental and social outcomes compared to traditional low-cost abatement programs.
· Underwriting project risks from trialling new approaches to carbon sequestration.
How does this fit with the Net Zero Plan? The NSW Government announced the Net Zero Plan to help NSW reduce emissions and increase carbon sequestration in March this year. In addition to the Primary Industries Productivity and Abatement Program, the Net Zero Plan will support a range of initiatives including energy efficiency and renewables, organic waste, clean technology development, electric vehicles, coal innovation and green hydrogen.
