About the speaker:
Melanie is an autistic presenter, consultant and mother to 4 neurologically diverse children. She has been working with autistic people for 11 years. Initially she used her graphic design degree to develop customised visual supports to help people live a more independent life and info graphics that help to explain autism visually. This developed into a flexible visual communication system, incorporating colour, symbology and psychology in an adaptive system that grows as the user does.
In 2017 she started as an advisor with the Albury Wodonga Autism Community of Practice, then into research, organisation and presentation in 2019. In 2018 she completed her graduate certificate in autism studies and began her Masters in autism studies the following year.
She now works with people helping them learn more about autistic neurology and how their unique neurology may be impacting on them. Using double empathy and social model of disability, she provides a customised support program.
