APSA Secretariat Paul Zalai says “APSA recognises the significance of the Riverina as one of Australia’s key agricultural regions and is taking this opportunity after nearly two years of travel restrictions to bring the industry and regional communities together”

“At a time of significant shipping disruption and restricted access to international markets, the APSA Conference will focus on key elements of the Federal Government review and importantly, will showcase emerging regulatory reform and innovative supply chain solutions necessary to drive Australia's economic prosperity.”

“We are extremely grateful to all event sponsors, notably BSM Global as our major sponsor and strategic sponsorship from the NSW Government – Destination NSW who we are working with to encourage delegates to stay beyond the conference to support the region and enjoy all the marvels the Riverina region has to offer”.

Olga Harriton, Global Supply Chain Manager, Manildra Group and APSA Chair, sees this as being a critically important event for the sector “It is time for Australian exporters to unite, learn from each other and collectively advocate for essential reform to shipping practices”.

“We look forward to facilitating interactive discussions where we will examine

·         whether current rail reforms and our port interface is ready to support growth of rural exports;

·         whether market forces will deliver intermodal, port and shipping capacity to meet the needs of exporters;

·         geopolitical tensions, biosecurity threats, vessel availability and freight rates

·         thought leadership on what strategies are required to diversify markets and safeguard our sector of commerce”

As a background, APSA is the designated peak shipper body granted status by the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport under Part X of the Consumer & Competition Act to represent the interests of Australian exporters in relation to liner cargo shipping services. Australia’s peak industry body has been the leading voice calling for a formal review to address critical aspects of the current shipping crisis, culminating in the former Prime Minister announcing that the Productivity Commission will complete a six month review to examine challenges in Australia's maritime logistics system.
