In recent years, people’s interest in where their produce comes from has grown enormously, farmers have also been looking for greater visibility of their product’s journey along the supply chain. It’s why traceability is such a big deal in agriculture today.
Australia’s organics industry has an estimated retail value of over $2.6 billion with growth predicted at 15 per cent each year until 2025. Certified organic food attracts a premium in domestic and international markets and this value is underpinned by trust. Trust in the product is critical to the growth of organics. A third of shoppers who purchased an organic product in the past year believed they had been misled by claims on product packaging. (The Australian Organic Market Report 2021)
Full transparency along the length of the supply chain is critical to product safety and quality and also gives companies a better understanding of their operations, opening up opportunities for process improvement.
