The Southern NSW Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub is looking for a prospective PhD candidate.
Are you interested in gaining a doctoral qualification, while working with primary producers and industry partners? Are you interested in delivering new ways of thinking that help producers and communities vulnerable to drought become more resilient and to flourish? Would you like to receive a stipend of $28,854 per annum (tax free*) while you undertake your research?
The Hub receives funding from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and is offering PhD scholarships for research projects that align with the Future Drought Fund's overarching mission, and which align with one or more of the questions/areas outlined below.
What does drought resilience look like in the Southern NSW context?
What is co-design of agricultural solutions and what does it look like?
What are the major barriers to the adoption of new farming practices in the Southern NSW context?
What are the major barriers to end-user engagement in the co-design solutions to on-farm problems in the Southern NSW context?
How can Indigenous land management practices be applied to enhance drought resilience in the Southern NSW context?
How can regenerative farming outcomes be achieved to improve drought resilience throughout Southern NSW?
How can extension & adoption systems, capabilities and capacity be transformed in southern NSW?
What attitudes do primary producers have to the adoption of environmentally beneficial practices in the Southern NSW context?
Which already developed solutions could be applied to greatest economic, social, cultural and environmental benefit in the Southern NSW context?
How can the mental health needs of primary producers and regional communities be met during times of drought and drought recovery?
Prospective candidates will need to apply via a competitive process.
To be eligible to receive the scholarship applicants must be:
Commencing a PhD in 2022
Australian or New Zealand citizens or Australian permanent residents
Conducting their research on a full-time basis only.
There is a strong preference that applicants currently reside within and undertake their research within the Hub footprint.
Candidates could be embedded within the non-university partners in the Hub so that they can closely engage with end-users. It is recommended that at least one non-academic professionals/partners are included as co-supervisors.
