Improving Mobile Connectivity on Australia’s Regional Roads

Minister Media Release: Minister for Communications, Minister for Sport

The Australian Government is investing $30 million to boost mobile coverage on regional and remote roads, through the National Regional Roads Australia Mobile Program.

The program will fund projects that improve multi-carrier mobile coverage on highways and major roads, providing mobile connectivity at strategic locations such as rest areas and truck stops, campgrounds, service centres, EV charging stations and viewing platforms.

Better mobile coverage in these areas will improve access to services and critical information during emergencies or natural disasters, keep motorists and workers connected as they travel through regional areas, and support the tourism, agriculture and freight industries.
