$50 million in funding open for active transport

The next funding round of the Active Transport Fund is now open, for new or upgraded bicycle and walking pathways across Australia.

After establishing the program as an ongoing measure in the 2026-27 Budget, the Australian Government is delivering $500 million in new funding over ten years, with $50 million delivered every year.

This application-based, merit-assessed program is open to all state and territory governments as well as local councils.

The funding aims to deliver safer active transport networks that promote healthier, more liveable communities.

This will build on the $100 million for more than 80 active transport projects already funded nationwide.

Successful projects include new walkways, bicycle paths and shared pathways, along with supporting upgrades such as new signage, speed bumps, kerb ramps and drainage improvements.
